STARZZ TORONTO Interviews 'Gene One'


Gene One, a young emcee from the west end of Toronto that lives breathes and thrives on hip hop. Since the age of 6 had a deep fascination for music and ultimatly underground hip hop and began exploring the art of graffiti by 11,taking on several names and aliases but ultimately chose the name Gene One. The genesis of graffiti writing propelled him to display his words in another form of hip hop and by 13 he was already sharpening his freestyle skills in cyphers going by the name he took upon himself from the beginning of his hip hop journey. By 16 he was becoming aware of his freestyle skills by encouragement from his peers and began making tracks and posting them onto his soundcloud. The now 17 year old is in the process of making his debut mixtape and sharpening his craft of an emcee, doing mulitple shows and opening for hip hop legends such as PETE ROCK AND CLSMOOTH ,Jeru the Damaja,Madchild of Swollen members, Slain of la coka nostra, Black sheep ,and countless other shows as well as a monthly show at Toronto's own Hotbox cafe. He has received recognition on his skills in and out of the cypher from the likes of Joey Badass, and Killah Priest Of the Wu Tang Clan and a collaberation track with Killah Priest is set to be on the mixtape which will drop later this month.
